Time: 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Celebrate the music of Ephrata Cloister with the Ephrata Cloister Chorus’ performance at 7:00 PM on Monday, October 21st at Leffler Chapel and Performance Center at Elizabethtown College. The Ephrata Cloister Chorus will perform four pieces composed at Ephrata Cloister found in the 1739 hymnal Zionitischer Weyrauchs-Hugel. The program will also include music by the Moravians, the Shakers, William Billings, and an African American spiritual. This performance by the Ephrata Cloister Chorus is FREE!
Preceding the concert, Archivist Rachel Grove Rohrbaugh will describe extensive conservation work completed in 2023 on two rare manuscripts from Ephrata Cloister that are now housed at Elizabethtown College’s Hess Archives and Special Collections. Both manuscripts were created by hand at Ephrata Cloister in the mid-18th century and contain beautiful examples of Pennsylvania German Fraktur.
The Ephrata Cloister Chorus, directed by Mark Herr and accompanied by Juliet Mitton, revitalizes the unique, original music of Ephrata Cloister as an educational program of the Ephrata Cloister Associates.
This event is part of the School of Arts and Humanities’ Monday Series Concerts and is cosponsored by the Young Center.
